Hotels Near EverBank Stadium: Doing a Jaguars Home Game from Yulee

Twice this September, NFL football happens in downtown Jacksonville: Sunday, September 13, when the Jaguars open the season at home against the Cleveland Browns, and Sunday, September 27, when the New England Patriots come to town. Then the schedule leaves. The Jaguars are at Denver in between, at Cincinnati after that, and then across the Atlantic for two straight London games. After September 27, there is no home football until November 1.

So if a Jaguars game is anywhere in your fall plans, it's one of these two Sundays or a long wait. And this year the trip takes more planning than usual, because the stadium is currently a construction site with a football field in the middle of it.

We're the Best Western Plus in Yulee, about 25 miles north of the stadium up I-95, and a hotel's-eye view of a Jaguars weekend looks like this: two dates, a smaller-than-usual building, and more people chasing fewer seats and fewer rooms. The opener is this Sunday. Here's the whole picture, including why we think the smart move is to sleep at our end of the drive.

The two Sundays

Sunday, September 13 vs. the Cleveland Browns. Week 1 and the home opener, the first game of the renovation era played inside the work-in-progress.

Sunday, September 27 vs. the New England Patriots. Week 3, and the last home date for more than a month. The road stretch that follows (Cincinnati, then London twice) is why the schedule doesn't bring football back to Jacksonville until the Colts visit on November 1.

You'll notice we haven't printed kickoff times, and that's deliberate. Both games are Sundays, and Sunday NFL games are subject to flex scheduling, which means a time we publish today could be wrong by the time you read this. Check the official schedule when you book your room, then check it again the week of the game. Build your Sunday around the time the team publishes, not around one a blog froze in early September.

What the construction year changes

EverBank Stadium is partway through its "Stadium of the Future" rebuild, and the team has been specific about what that means for this season. From their own release: "The capacity of EverBank Stadium for the 2026 NFL season will be 42,507, which includes 1,260 standing room only tickets." Some 27,637 seats are offline, most of them in the upper deck. And the team said the quiet part out loud: "with the reduced capacity, we expect demand for tickets to outstrip supply in 2026."

Two practical consequences follow from that.

First, sort your tickets early. We won't guess at prices or availability, but a building that has more than a third of its seats out of commission does not get easier to walk up to on the day.

Second, don't rely on what you remember about getting in. Construction moves things. Which gates open, where you park, how you approach the building: all of it can change during the season, and none of it is something we can responsibly print from a hotel in Yulee. The team maintains a Stadium of the Future FAQ and sends game-day information to ticket holders before each home date. Read it the week of the game. This season, the team's version of the logistics is the only version worth having, so we're pointing you there rather than pretending to know better.

The drive down

From our parking lot to the stadium is about 25 miles, nearly all of it I-95. When the road is clear, that's roughly half an hour. A game day is not a clear day, at least not on the downtown end, so give yourself real margin: leave earlier than feels necessary and treat whatever you save as extra pregame time. Have your parking figured out through the team's official game-day info before Sunday morning, for the reasons above.

The route itself is about as simple as Florida driving gets. Out of our lot onto State Road 200, a few minutes to I-95, then south past the airport exits and into downtown. Going home is the same road in reverse, with the traffic thinning out as you get north of the airport.

If you're flying in for the game, and a Patriots or Browns road trip means some of you are, the geography works even harder. Jacksonville International is about 13 miles from us, a 15-to-20-minute drive, and it sits right along the route between the hotel and the stadium. Land, pick up the rental, check in at our end, and the only thing you ever fight downtown for is the game itself.

Where to stay, honestly

The closest hotels to EverBank Stadium are downtown, and if your ideal Sunday is walking from a lobby to your seat, that's the version to book. No drive, no post-game crawl out of the stadium district, and on a hot September afternoon a short walk is worth something real.

Here's the trade. Downtown rooms price to demand, and demand on a Jaguars weekend runs at its yearly peak, this season more than most if the team's own supply-and-demand forecast holds. You're paying a premium for proximity to a building you'll be inside for a few hours.

We're a half-hour drive north at Yulee rates, and the game-day math is mostly a list of things you don't pay for: free on-site parking with room for a truck, a free hot breakfast before you head south, and free WiFi for the highlight rewatch. The rooms are soundproofed with blackout curtains, which earns its keep when you get back from a stadium at whatever hour flex scheduling hands you. Every room has a mini-fridge and a microwave. The island around the game

Base in Yulee and the rest of your weekend sits in the opposite direction from the stadium: Amelia Island's beaches and downtown Fernandina Beach are about 15 miles east of us, roughly a 25-minute drive. A downtown Jacksonville hotel puts you close to one Sunday afternoon. Ours puts you between the game and the coast.

Some September specifics worth knowing. The ocean is still in the low 80s, genuinely warm, and after Labor Day the summer crowds go home. The honest caveat: county lifeguards come off the beaches after Labor Day too, so for the rest of the month you're swimming unguarded. Fort Clinch State Park, up at the island's northern tip, is about 16 miles from us, call it half an hour, and the full slate of island options lives on our things-to-do page.

Weekend by weekend:

• September 12–13: the Amelia Island Dance Festival runs September 10–13, with a free outdoor community event and more than 30 free workshops surrounding the ticketed guest-artist performances.
• September 26–27: Oktober Fest takes over 2nd Street in downtown Fernandina on Saturday the 26th, 11 a.m.–6 p.m. Sunday evening there's a free Sunset Concert at Amelia River Waterfront Park, 7–9 p.m. Whether you can make both the game and the concert depends on the kickoff time the NFL eventually assigns, so hold that plan loosely.

One logistics note for the Fernandina side of the weekend: as of publication, downtown street parking there is paid. The first 20 minutes are free, then it's $2 an hour, enforced Monday through Saturday 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Sunday 1 to 6 p.m. The program is scheduled to end November 18, 2026, which doesn't help you this month, so check the city's parking page for the current rules before you drive in.

Pick your Sunday, or take both. Get tickets before the building's math gets them for you. Check the kickoff time the week of the game, not before, and read the team's game-day info instead of trusting your memory of how the stadium used to work. Then sleep in Yulee: point the car south on Sunday with time to spare, and spend the rest of the weekend 25 minutes east with warm water under you and a set menu in front of you.
